The Fuel and Environmental Operations team ensures safe, compliant, reliable, and cost‑effective locomotive fueling and water treatment operations across the network. Union Pacific’s locomotive fleet consumes over 900 million gallons of diesel annually through fueling infrastructure at more than 40 locations. Water treatment operations at over 100 sites support locomotive operations by providing potable water and managing industrial wastewater and stormwater in compliance with community standards.
The Senior Manager, Industrial Process Controls Integrator, provides strategic and technical leadership for the design, integration, reliability, and lifecycle management of industrial control systems supporting fuel and water treatment operations. This role oversees controls engineering standards, system architecture, automation technologies, and operational technology (OT) cybersecurity. Serving as the enterprise subject matter expert for PLC, HMI, SCADA, DCS, data acquisition systems, and industrial networks, the position leads cross‑functional teams to resolve complex system issues, advance automation strategies, and ensure compliance with regulatory, safety, and cybersecurity standards.
Accountabilities
- Lead enterprise strategy, standards, architecture, and lifecycle management for industrial control systems (PLC, HMI, SCADA, DCS, and OT networks).
- Ensure control systems operate safely, reliably, and securely while meeting regulatory, environmental, and operational performance requirements.
- Establish and maintain control system standards, technical architectures, cybersecurity requirements, and system documentation.
- Drive control system modernization and obsolescence planning, including upgrades to hardware, software, and network infrastructure.
- Lead root cause analysis and resolution of complex control system, network, and performance issues across sites.
- Apply data-driven methodologies and advanced analytics to identify risks, improve reliability, and enhance monitoring and automation capabilities.
- Oversee planning, prioritization, budgeting, and execution of control system capital projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide technical governance for system design, equipment selection, and contractor/vendor performance to ensure quality and consistency.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, safety, and OT cybersecurity standards; implement security controls, segmentation, access management, and site-level training.
- Lead, coach, and direct control system technicians and contractors, while serving as a trusted advisor to operations, engineering, and cross-functional leadership.
Qualifications - Required
- Post secondary degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in industrial automation, control systems engineering, or process controls integration.
- Demonstrated expertise in PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.
- A valid driver’s license
- Strong understanding of industrial networking.
- Knowledge of applicable regulatory and industry standards.
- Proven experience managing technical projects and capital programs.
- Strong problem solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to travel a minimum of 50% based on operational needs.

- A Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience in heavy industrial, manufacturing, energy, utilities, transportation, or similar environments.
- Experience integrating industrial control systems with MES, historian, or enterprise data platforms.
- Background in continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience applying OT cybersecurity controls.
